Cryptocurrency mining using non-environmental power sources is now banned in New York State. The relevant law was signed by Governor Kathy Hocul, the Associated Press news agency reported.
The state made the decision after the FTX crypto exchange launched bankruptcy proceedings. Many congressmen demanded that the U.S. government tighten control over the blockchain industry, including crypto trading and mining.
The law states that New York imposes a two-year moratorium on the issuance of licenses and on the renewal of previously issued documents to companies mining cryptocurrency using non-renewable sources of electricity.
